Justin Rose owns the 54-hole lead, thanks to a 6-under 66 at PGA West -- Palmer Course. Rose played with football stars Sterling Sharpe, Marcus Allen and Jerome Bettis on Friday. He is 18-under par after three days and two shots in front of 36-hole, co-leader Scott Verplank. Rose will move to The Classic Club for his fourth round on Saturday and will have Roger Clemens and Carson Daly among his amateur partners. The 26-year old is in search of his first career win on the PGA TOUR. Justin Rose holds a 54-hole lead for the third time in his PGA TOUR career. Rose led the 2006 Canadian Open by one stroke (finished T14) and the 2005 Buick Championship by one stroke (finished 3rd). Both of those were 72-hole events. Justin Rose shot a 6-under-par 66 at PGA West -- Palmer Course, the best round of the day at that course. Rose stands at 18-under par and leads by two shots with two rounds to go. On a similar note, Rose posted an 8-under-par 64 in the third round last year at PGA West and went on to tie for 10th. In his initial BHCC start in 2005, Rose shot a fourth-round 68 at PGA West and eventually tied for 29th. Scott Verplank was derailed by a late-round bogey for the second straight day. The 2006 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic runner-up bogeyed the 16th hole at Bermuda Dunes -- his only bogey of the day -- and finished with a 4-under-par 68. Verplank is two shots back of leader Justin Rose and will play his fourth round at LaQuinta CC. Bernhard Langer recorded the second ace in as many days at the BHCC. Langer aced the 7th hole at Bermuda Dunes CC, 170 yards with a 6-iron. Ryan Palmer made a hole-in-one at The Classic Club (No. 17) on Thursday. Bernhard Langer posted the low round of the day, a 9-under-par 63 at Bermuda Dunes, which included back-to-back eagles. Langer registered an ace at the par-3, 7th and then made an eagle-3 at the par-5, 8th hole. Langer's 63 is two shots off the Bermuda Dunes course record of 61 set by Pat Perez in 2003. Defending champion Chad Campbell's 2-under-par 70 at PGA West Friday included six birdies, an eagle and a quadruple-bogey 7 at the 233-yard, par-3, 5th hole. Campbell hit two tee shots into the water. His fifth shot also missed the green. He was able to chip up and one-putt for his unlucky-7. Campbell is 2-under through 54 holes and tied for 84th. John Huston withdrew following his round at LaQuinta CC. He will be replaced in the field (Pro-Am portion only) by LaQuinta resident Mark Wurtz, who will play Saturday at PGA WEST. On the celebrity front -- Clint Eastwood and Jimmy Kimmel will join the celebrity field for Saturday's round at The Classic Club. Eastwood is taking over the spot for Kenny G. and Kimmel will step in for Mossimo Giannulli. Robert Allenby (-13) and Charley Hoffman (-12) lead the tournament in birdies with 20 each. Leader Justin Rose (-18) and Scott Verplank (-16) are next on the list with 18 each. Rose also has two eagles to his credit. Lucas Glover shot a 6-under-par 66 at Bermuda Dunes CC to get to 13-under 203 through 54 holes and is tied for 3rd place. Glover tied for 10th last year in his first appearance at the BHCC, finishing at 16-under 344. Despite a bogey on the final hole, rookie Andrew Buckle posted the day's best score at The Classic Club, a 6-under-par 66. Buckle tied for 28th at last week's Sony Open in Hawaii, his fourth career start on the PGA TOUR. Copyright 2007 PGATOUR.com. All rights reserved. |
