Tadd Fujikawa is the first amateur to make a cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii since Don Hurter made the cut at the 1981 Hawaiian Open at Waialea Country Club. Hurter finished tied for 36th at 8-under 280, when the course was a par-72. The cut came at even-par 140 with 73 players (72 professionals and one amateur) advancing to weekend play. Luke Donald and Paul Goydos shared the second-round lead at 11-under 129. The 11-under total is the lowest at the Sony Open in Hawaii since Brad Faxon sat at 12-under 128 in 2001. Co-leader Luke Donald holds/shares the second-round lead for the fifth time in his career. He has yet to win from this position. The last time he shared a second-round lead on TOUR was at the 2006 PGA Championship, where he finished T3. Co-leader Paul Goydos also holds/shares the second-round lead for the fifth time in his. He has yet to win from this position. The last time he held/shared a second-round lead on TOUR was at the 2001 Bay Hill Invitational, where he finished T8. Of the 21 rookies who were making their first start as a member of the PGA TOUR, nine of the players made the cut -- Andrew Buckle (T16), George McNeill (T16), Craig Lile (T25), Johnson Wagner (T25), Jarrod Lyle (T49), Steve Marino (T49), Doug LaBelle II (T62), Michael Putnam (T62) and Jeff Quinney (T62). Three rookies were making their first-ever PGA TOUR start this week. Two of the missed the cut by a stroke -- Ryan Armour (1-over 141) and Brendon de Jonge (1-over 141), while Tom Johnson was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. Two players were disqualified on Friday for signing incorrect scorecards -- Stephen Ames signed for a 4 on the 18th hole, when he actually recorded a 5, while Tom Johnson signed for a 3 on the 11th hole, when he actually recorded a 4. Chad Campbell, who finished T2 during the 2006 Sony Open in Hawaii, is back in contention again in 2007. Campbell used rounds of 66-65 to sit at 9-under, two back of the co-leaders. This is Campbell's sixth appearance at Waialae CC, but it's just been the last two years that he has contended. He made the cut in three of his first four starts, but his best finish was a T47 in 2005 prior to last year's runner-up finish. Chad Campbell and Jim Furyk shared the second-round lead in 2006 at 6-under. This year they sit two strokes and four strokes behind the co-leaders, respectively. Co-leader Paul Goydos made it into this year's Sony Open in Hawaii thanks to his T2 at the 2006 full-field season-ending Chrysler Championship in Tampa, Fla. The top-10 finish qualified him for the event but it also jumped him No. 160 on the money list inside the top 125 (finished season No. 97) to also qualify him for the event. Goydos' only win on TOUR came at the 1996 Bay Hill Invitational. On Friday, he fired a bogey-free 7-under 63, including five consecutive birdies (Nos. 7-11) to join Luke Donald at 11-under. There were six bogey-free rounds on Friday. Four in the morning wave -- Chad Campbell, Jerry Kelly, Bart Bryant and rookie Johnson Wagner -- and two in the afternoon wave -- Paul Goydos and Andrew Buckle. Goydos has played his last 32 holes without a bogey. A pair of Wisconsin residents are enjoying their stay in the warmer Hawaiian climate this week. Jerry Kelly, winner of the 2002 Sony Open in Hawaii, and Steve Stricker fired rounds of 65 and 67, respectively to move into a tie for eighth heading into the weekend. Kelly has had much success at Waialae CC over the years with four top-10s in eight starts, including three in a row from 2002-04 (win, T4, T5). This is just the third start at Sony Open in Hawaii for Stricker, his best finish is a T14 in 2000. Jeff Maggert made the biggest move of the day following up his 3-over 73 in round one with a 5-under 65 in round two allowing him to jump 81 spots from T117 to 36. Copyright 2007 PGATOUR.com.
