Albertson's Boise Open breaks Nationwide Tour charity records

BOISE, Idaho -- The Albertsons Boise Open presented by First Health announced Thursday that donations to Boise area non-profit organizations from this year's tournament have reached a new high of $2.026 million.

This year's contribution set a single-year record for the Nationwide Tour, eclipsing the mark previously set by the Albertsons Boise Open in 2006. In addition, the tournament's total charitable donation of $8,421,439 since its inception also leads the Nationwide Tour.

The record donation was announced at a breakfast hosted by SUPERVALU at The Boise Centre on the Grove.

The tournament's 12 primary beneficiaries collectively received $300,000, with each receiving an equal share of $25,000. The primary beneficiaries are: The Boise Art Museum -- School Tours Program, The Idaho Shakespeare Festival -- Theater for Youth, Idaho Human Rights Education Center -- Anne Frank Exhibit, Make a Wish of Idaho, New Heritage Theater Company -- Teen Response Program, Idaho Foodbank -- Children's Nutritional Services, Boys and Girls Clubs -- Ada County -- Dinner Shack, Life's Kitchen -- Job training for youth at risk, Syringa House -- Transitional living program, Idaho Recreation Unlimited -- Adaptive ski program, Boys and Girls Club -- Nampa-- Teen Center and SNAPS -- Special needs adoptive parent's services.

SUPERVALU and the tournament provided Boise area non-profit organizations with the opportunity to sell tournament tickets and retain 100 percent of the proceeds for their causes through the Sara Lee Tickets FORE Charity campaign. Additionally, SUPERVALU and Sara Lee provided a bonus pool of $50,000, which was distributed among the participating charities based on each charity's sales. Over 65 non-profits participated in the Sara Lee Tickets FORE Charity promotion and generated $529,348.50 in ticket sales in 2007. When combined with the bonus pool, the charitable donations generated from the Sara Lee Tickets FORE Charity campaign totaled $579,348.50.

The Kraft Shoot-Out presented by J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation featured a $1 million purse thanks to a generous contribution by the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation. Four non-profit organizations in the midst of major fund-raising projects benefited from the Shoot-Out. Based on the results of the competition, the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games and Treasure Valley YMCA's Horsethief Camp each received $250,000 while the Boys and Girls Club-Meridian Club won $170,000 and the Community Detox Center, -a community project with the United Way, was the big winner with $330,000.

The Rocky Mountain Section PGA Foundation, based in Eagle, Idaho, received a $¬30,000 donation to assist in the growth of junior golf activities and scholarships as well as funding educational programs for the PGA golf professionals and golfing public.

SUPERVALU and the tournament announced additional donations of $25,000 to America's Second Harvest, $57,500 to the Albertsons Stores Charitable Foundation, $16,000 to the Noon Optimist Club of Boise and $2,400 to The Bishop Kelly Foundation.

The tournament and SUPERVALU also continued the long-standing tradition of supporting the men's and women's golf teams at both the University of Idaho and Boise State University. Each school received $5,000 donations from this year's tournament, totaling $10,000.

Lastly, the tournament announced that Nationwide, the Tour's umbrella sponsor, provided the First Tee Chapter of Idaho with a $5,000 donation to aid in its mission of impacting the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
