Weekley continues steady climb atop money list He narrowly missed a chance to play for the United States in The Presidents Cup, but Boo Weekley made the most of a missed opportunity. ![]() Boo Weekley birdied the par-five 18th at Annandale to move into a tie for third last week in the Viking Classic. (WireImage) Weekley finished tied for third in the Viking Classic for his best finish since his breakthrough win in the Verizon Heritage. The finish in Mississippi was especially sweet for Weekley, who lives just a few hours away in Milton, Fla. Weekley birdied the 72nd hole to climb into a tie for third. He had a hole-in-one on Friday at Annandale Gold Club, and he shot 70 or better in all four rounds. The finish only solidified Weekley's push to finish the season among the top 30 on the PGA TOUR money list. Weekley made $203,000 for the Viking Classic run, giving him a half-million dollar cushion over 30th-place Tim Clark. Weekley has played in 28 events, tied for the most of any player in the top 30 (John Rollins also has 28 starts). The post-victory grind was tough on Weekley, who missed four cuts in the first two months after his win at Harbour Town. Weekley finally righted the ship with his spectacular play in the PGA Championship, where a third-round 65 helped him finish tied for ninth. That finish helped assure him a lucrative spot through the inaugural PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, where Weekley made the cut in all four tournaments. Weekley continuously joked all season that he is only playing golf to gather up enough money to retire and fish. "I always get nervous. That's what makes it fun,:" Weekley said. "You know, the butterflies. If I quit having the butterflies, I'm done playing golf. "I mean seriously. That's one thing, I do come out and want to play and that's the reason why I think the competitiveness gives us the butterflies. I enjoy it." |
