Nationwide Tour Notes - Week of August 6, 2007 Steve Flesch's win last week at the Reno-Tahoe Open was the 210th on the PGA TOUR by a former Nationwide Tour player. Former players have won a TOUR event in each of the last four weeks. You might want to look for a veteran to emerge this week at the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic. Players 40 or older have won four of the previous seven events in Pennsylvania. There will be a strong Nationwide Tour presence at this week's PGA Championship with 61 former players in the field. Three alums have won the PGA Championship -- John Daly in 1991, David Toms in 2001 and Shaun Micheel in 2003. Roland Thatcher, the Nationwide Tour's leading money-winner, claimed the Cox Classic to join Nick Flanagan as the Tour's only multiple winners this season. Both Thatcher and Flanagan are in the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic field and are only one win away from earning the Tour's Three-Win Promotion an immediate ticket to the PGA TOUR. Thatcher leads the money list by $91,415 over Jason Day. Flanagan ranks No. 4 on the money list despite having to sit out for four weeks after having hernia surgery. Jay Williamson and Tommy Tolles each have the lowest stroke average in the seven years the tournament has been played. They're both at 67.25. In 2006, Williamson tied for fifth in his only appearance. Tolles finished ninth in 2003. Chris Riley will be making his first appearance on the Nationwide Tour since he won the Rochester Area Charities Showdown at Somerby in Minnesota earlier this year. Riley won the 2002 Reno-Tahoe Open on the PGA TOUR and was a member of the 2004 U.S. Ryder Cup team. After struggling in 2005, Riley finished 2006 at 150th on the PGA TOUR money list and has played this season with conditional status on the PGA TOUR. He has made seven cuts on the PGA TOUR this year. Past champions in the field this week include Gary Hallberg (2002), D.A. Points (2004) and Greg Kraft (2005). The Glenmaura National Golf Club 18-hole record is held by Paul Gow. He shot a 61 in 2003. |
