'Say What' with Chez Reavie PGA TOUR Staff Editor's note: Chez Reavie began his Nationwide Tour career by making the cut in his first 18 events. Last year, in his first full season on the Tour, he earned $93,713 to finish 63rd on the money list. The former Arizona State golfer tied for third last week at the South Georgia Classic and is currently 12th on the money list. He recently visited with Laury Livsey of the PGA TOUR's communications staff for another edition of Say What. PGATOUR.com: What was the secret behind your cuts-made streak? ![]() Chez Reavie was a math whiz in school, but didn't like writing too much. (Stan Badz/PGA TOUR/WireImage)
Reavie: I just seemed to play really solid, especially the first two rounds. I kind of struggled on the weekends a bit. I stayed positive a lot and was fortunate to make a lot of cuts. PGATOUR.com: Will you explain Chez? Reavie: William Chesney Reavie is my full name, and I've always been called Chez for short. PGATOUR.com: Is there anybody who doesn't call you Chez? Reavie: My grandpa called me William, but he was the only one. PGATOUR.com: What's your favorite memory on the Nationwide Tour? Reavie: Probably at Peek'n Peak (Classic) last year when I finished sixth. It was really the first chance I had to win a golf tournament. That's my fondest memory, playing well on the back nine. PGATOUR.com: What was your best subject in school? Reavie: I like math a lot. Algebra and trig(onometry). Calculus and geometry. Geometry was a lot of fun. PGATOUR.com: If I gave you a trigonometry problem right now, could you do it? Reavie: Probably not. That's sad, isn't it? PGATOUR.com: What was your most hated subject in school? Reavie: Writing. I hated writing. I don't know why because my sister loves it. I never got into it. I was more of a history guy, and I didn't have to do creative writing for my papers. Factual writing I'm OK with. PGATOUR.com: What was your favorite hang-out place in college? Reavie: There's a good place called Fumbles in Tempe. It's a little sports bar there by campus, with nickel beers on Tuesday. It was a fun place to hang out. PGATOUR.com: How many golf clubs do you have at your house right now? Reavie: I have 12 sets of irons and probably 300 clubs. PGATOUR.com: What's the oldest club in your bag? Reavie: That would be the putter. I've had the same putter in there for 2 ½ years. It's a Scotty Cameron. PGATOUR.com: In your first round of golf, what did you shoot? Reavie: My first full round I shot 106 at Dobson Ranch Golf Course (in Mesa, Ariz.). I was 10. PGATOUR.com: I notice you have a retainer in your mouth. When was the last time you went to the orthodontist? Reavie: One of my best friends back home is a dentist. I play golf with him all the time, so he checks on my permanent retainer. PGATOUR.com: Does that make you one of the few Nationwide Tour golfers with a retainer? Reavie: It's true. Every time I tee it up, I'm playing with a retainer in my mouth. PGATOUR.com: Do you floss daily? Reavie: No. PGATOUR.com: And what does your dentist friend have to say about that? Reavie: He'll read this and curse me, because he tells me to. PGATOUR.com: OK, so if you're not going to floss, and you can only have one kind of candy bar for the rest of your life, what is it? Reavie: Payday. Copyright 2007 PGATOUR.com. All rights reserved. |
