Showdown at Somerby moved four weeks earlier on schedule PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- The Showdown at Somerby will move four weeks earlier in the 2007 Nationwide Tour schedule to June 11-17, it was announced Wednesday by Rochester Golf Charities President Jim Lehman and Nationwide Tour President Bill Calfee. The Showdown at Somerby will be hosted by Somerby Golf Club in the Rochester, Minn., suburb of Byron for the second year in a row. Last year's tournament was won by Brandt Snedeker in a two-hole playoff over Jeff Quinney. Snedeker's third-place finish at the recent Buick Invitational in San Diego was his TOUR best, while Quinney has posted three top-10 finishes in his last three starts (Bob Hope Chrysler Classic/T4, Buick Invitational/T7 and FBR Open/3rd). Kevin Stadler and Jason Gore won the first two Showdown events in 2004 and 2005, respectively, when they were played in Hudson, Wisc. "The Showdown at Somerby will be enhanced not only by its earlier June date but the prospect that players not competing in the U.S. Open may come to Rochester," said Lehman. "There was strong community support last year and fans were treated to great golf and a wonderful time. We anticipate the event will grow this year and even more businesses will elect to invest in the Showdown at Somerby, which, in turn, will help us increase the tournament's impact on local charities." "We appreciate the cooperation of Jim Lehman and Rochester Golf Charities in making this date change work for all parties", said Calfee. "We're very confident Somerby Golf Club will be in terrific shape in mid-June. Nationwide Tour players really enjoyed their first visit to the club last year and look forward to returning this summer. The Rochester community demonstrated great support and enthusiasm for the tournament and we're sure fans will come out again in June to see PGA TOUR-level golf at Somerby." The original tournament dates were July 9-15. |
